Cape Town Vineyards Wedding

Amanda and Zane came all the way from London to celebrate their wedding day with friends and family at the Cape Town Vineyards in Noordhoek. The couple wanted their wedding to be a relaxed affair, not too posy and to have enough time to enjoy the company of their guests, so we wasted no time with their couple photographs, these we did in about 15 minutes before the ceremony at a beautiful abandoned and derelict old building higher up onRead more

Chloe’s shimmer – Birds of paradise

One of my best friends, Chloé, is getting married one of these days.  So, we had a lovely lunch / tea party event for her at De Meye, The Table Restaurant, not far from Stellenbosch. Friends pulled together and decorated the table with gorgeous flowers and vintage glasses etc. and  dressed to the theme, suited to our glamorous friend: Chloe’s Shimmer, Birds of paradise.  Absolutely delicious food and festive setting, thanks De Meye! And dearest Chloé, we wish you allRead more

Circus photo story

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting the fantastic Grifizzi brothers and friends circus in Stellenbosch.  Since my friend, Jesyka, had recently joined the circus with her act, the spanish web, I was able to meet everyone else involved and could hang around backstage to take some pictures. What an awesome event for young and old!  If you have the chance, do not miss out on this circus!  It is animal free and so much fun with all kinds of ridesRead more

Leon & Jessica’s Forest wedding photographs

I met Leon a decade ago, together with some other awesome people en our way to a medical outreach mission to Zambia.  A few years later I met Jessica when she lived in South Africa briefly and the two were just getting to know each other.  So, it was incredibly special for me to see this friendship blossom into something beautiful and to be part of this wedding, and also to capture their wedding photographs in the little forest inside the Matroosberg nature reserve.Read more

Get up, stand up for your rights!

The Cape Town Cannabis march happened on Saturday 6 May and a good representation of the Rainbow country turned up in support…  Although Marijuana was legalised recently, many people are still getting arrested for possession.  It may take two to three years for the legalisation process to be completed and anything can still happen in the meantime. Well done to the people from Bongalong for all your hard work in organising this event!Read more

KKNK Street theatre

My recent experience at the 2017 KKNK (Klein Karoo National arts festival in Oudtshoorn) was somewhat of a captivating experience in many ways… Not having been to the Oudtshoorn festival in about 10 years and driving there on Friday 7 April, the day of the “Zuma must fall” march, I found a heightened awareness in myself concerning the state of our country and the complicated relationships between our diverse cultures, with the important role (and perhaps responsibility) that the arts possess, in instigating change. This significant powerRead more

Erica & Willem’s forest wedding

It was a great honour for me to be there to photograph my dearest friend Erica’s forest wedding in December just outside Stelllenbosch. The Winery Road Forest provided the perfect wedding venue for Erica and Willem’s gorgeous ceremony of matrimony.  Friends and family gathered under the pine trees and more than a few tears were shed in love as Erica’s father walked her down the isle to her husband. Erica looked stunning in her vintage wedding dress, that belonged to her sister whoRead more

Emile and Ilse’s Wedding Photos

And the shophar blew… The 7th of January 2017 marked a treasured day in the life of a beautiful dear friend, Ilse.  The day of tying the knot with her special man Emile and become a new family. Ilse got dressed at Laborie Landgoed in Paarl, the perfect setting for her and her bridesmaids and gorgeous little flower girls. The ceremony took place at Rusticana, close to Klapmuts, Paarl and the reception hall was the perfect compliment to Ilse, looking positively sparkling in her 8kg wedding dress,Read more

Learning Man

My first Learning man experience, and most probably not my last.  I didn’t know that many people before I went and I was a touch nervous, especially because of not knowing what to expect of the ‘talent’ system.  (People trade in ‘talents‘ and not in money, so it took me a few days to get into that, but when I did, it was pleasantly refreshing! ) I recently got a new tent, so I was very keen on camping in the beautifulRead more

Street photography Venezia

In September, at the end of my project in Switzerland,  I took a little five day break in Italy.  After Rome, I spent basically two days doing some street photography in Venezia, which was of course wonderful, so unbelievably many little streets and canals and bridges and yes, also not too few tourists.  I wouldn’t mind going back there either, exploring more remote streets and being about on some misty mornings… I stayed in a tent in an organic garden at theRead more

Bertus & Lea-Ann

Very recently I had the pleasure of doing the wedding photography of Bertus and Lea-Ann, in Cape Town. The ceremony took place at the historic St Barnabas church on Kloof street, after which we headed down to the Company’s Gardens for a few couple photographs and then it was time for the intimate reception at the home of Bertus’ parents in Tamboerskloof. A lot of fun was to be had with Bertus using a big old sword to slice the wedding cakeRead more

Rome (wasn’t built) in a day

During my three month visit to Switzerland I had the opportunity to visit Italy for a few days, so I caught a cheap bus from Zurich and arrived in Rome 15 hours later early in the morning. Picked up from the bus stop by my long lost Italian ‘brother’ that I haven’t seen for 14 years.  Together with his girlfriend they showed me around Calcutta and Rome with a good number of espresso fuel-up stops along the way.We walked aRead more

Engagement photos on the farm

It is so special for me to be the one to take engagement photos for these two and just spend time with them!  I met Leon many years ago on our way to a medical outreach in Zambia and we’ve been friends ever since. A few years later the lovely Jessica came to study in South Africa all the way from America…  Leon and Jessica got to know each other and made efforts to visit each other’s countries over the years andRead more

A little fashion shoot in Cape Town

It’s not every day I get to do a fashion shoot so I don’t mind the opportunity when it arrives.  These are some of my favourite shots from the shoot and mostly I like the black and white ones.  We were lucky to have a relatively a warm winter’s afternoon (apart from the chilly Woodstock wind! ) and some nice light reflected between the buildings in the street we shot in. Pressed for time, we had to work as creative and quick asRead more

Family portrait photography

I’ve known Kobus since school days and we also studied Drama together at University, so our friendship has come a long way and it’s really special to me whenever I get the opportunity to spend some time with him and his beautiful growing family for some family portrait photography. Kobus and Roxane are expecting their second little one very soon and we had to get some photos before that, so we went to Deerpark in Vredehoek Cape Town for a little picnic on aRead more

Luan and Susan’s wedding at Welgemeend Cape Town

It was nothing less than a perfectly beautiful sunshiny day with blue skies, to celebrate Luan and Susan’s wedding at the Welgemeend wedding venue in Cape Town. Susan and her bridesmaids got ready at the lovely The Glen apartments in Camps Bay with Table Mountain on one side and the ocean on the other side, providing a stunning backdrop. To make the occasion even more special, Susan had her new sister-in-law, Mareli to do her make-up and Susan looked totally gorgeous in her long slim, silkyRead more

Paarl Wedding Photography

Winelands, Paarl wedding Photography A couple of months ago I met the lovely Elizna and Jacques for the first time, when they came to the farm, Damarakloof for their engagement photos.  Great was the anticipation of their special day of matrimony on the 2nd of April, lying ahead for this couple, so clearly in love. The day started in a relaxed mode at the wonderful guesthouse, De Kleijnebos Country House, the perfect setting for a bride to get ready in theRead more

Natural family photography with Valentina

In April 2015, Eric and Olive got married in South Africa, all the way from Germany.  A year later they are back to visit with the newest edition to their family, the gorgeous little Valentina, only eight weeks old and having her first taste of summer and some Natural Family Photography. We took photos on two separate occasions, the first, at Noble Hill (and a few at Babylonstoren) in the Winelands and the second in Cape Town’s stunning KirstenboschRead more

When stars align on the Flipside

On the weekend of the Equinox leading into autumn in South Africa, Flipside Events held a very special party, ‘Summer on the Flipside‘ in the beautiful Pat Busch Mountain Reserve outside Robertson.  Part of what makes this party so special is the intimacy of it, about 400-500 people only, so not the masses you meet at most other of the more commercial trance parties these days.  Also, the music isn’t trance exclusively, there is a beautifully balanced variation between psytrance andRead more

Greenpop Reforest Fest 2016

Greenpop Reforest Fest 2016 was my second Greenpop Family weekend to attend at Platbos Forest close to Stanford (Hermanus / Gansbaai) together with The Psychedelic Theatre stall.  We provided some fun flow toys like hula hoops, poi, diabolo and dancing ribbons for young and old to play with when not planting trees. (Around 2 000 trees were planted this weekend!) It was otherwise also a very special weekend because I had a couple of really good friends at the festival andRead more
